If you wanted to get an idea of how fucked up SF politics are, check out this write-up of our upcoming mayoral election:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2007/10/22/MN1FSFN93.DTL

We've got a do-nothing, pretty-boy incumbent, and no one of any substance running against him. His dozen opponents include a sex club owner, a homeless vegan cab driver, a performance art showman, and a nudist activist. Also some career political failures.

I'll probably vote for Josh Wolf, cause in addition to having a cool name, he's in favor of making MUNI free. Also, after spending seven months in jail, he deserves a few votes at least. Though I have to say he sounds like he'd be a total catastrophe of a mayor. But he'd be better than a lot of the other choices. Gotta love San Francisco!

Wow.. I can see disagreeing with the Mayor on a few issues, but do nothing? The man has brought health care to the masses, started the process of turning around Hunter's point, initiated police accountability reforms, not to mention supported gay rights in a way that no other politician has. He has hardly been "doing nothing."

He campaigned on dealing with the homeless problem in SF. Yet things seem to be just as bad now as they were when he was elected. Newsom may have been busy and effective, but if he has been it wasn't in any ways that are visible to me or most residents of the city. And invalid gay marriages don't really count.
