This has been a very nice holiday weekend. It's September, so we finally have some nice summer weather here in SF. I took Friday off, so I've been enjoying a 4-day weekend. It's been nice getting out and doing stuff and enjoying my beautiful city.

Friday there were no new episodes to watch on Sci-Fi Friday, so saintmichael, navyboy and I went to see Hairspray. I have to say the movie exceeded my expectations. It was much more entertaining than I thought it would be, and I even liked John Travolta as Edna. Zac Efron was of course just the bee's knees. It was a bit surreal seeing him in that part since I just watched High School Musical 1 & 2 last week, but it was also good to see him in a more interesting role.

Saturday saintmichael and I went to tour the USS Pampanito at Pier 45. The tour was one of those self-guided things with a recording to explain things as you wander about looking at things. I can't imagine what it must have been like for 80 men to live in such a small space - they had 36 bunks in a cabin that was barely larger than my bedroom and slept in shifts, and only 4 heads (toilets) for the whole crew. Crewmen actually slept in the torpedo rooms over the torpedos!

After we tried to go get food and sangria at Cha Cha Cha in the Haight, but we got there at 4:00 and they had just closed the kitchen for an hour. Instead we went back to the Castro to dine at Harvey's, but the cute waiter wasn't working, the food sucked, and the service was spotty. At least they comped us a meal to try and make up for the lousy experience.

Sunday was sunny and hot, so I went to the beach. I drove over to Black Sands, my favorite beach spot near here. I had a thought that the climb down might be a problem, since the path has been degrading and I hadn't been there in 2 years so I didn't know what condition it was in. But some clever, industrious soul strung some ropes along the path so the descent was no problem at all. But the beach was almost empty. There were about 6 other guys there, mostly the usual tired old men you see haunting nude beaches. I hate it when there's no eye candy at the beach. But the beach was beautiful and I had a nice time just chilling out. Got sunburned, but it's not too bad.

Today I want to stay out of the sun, so I'll probably just putter around the house or see if I can convince someone to go grab a matinee. Man, I don't want to get up early for work tomorrow!
