I was having a dream with a lot of narrative last night, and woke myself up. I had forgotten something in my car and had turned back down a dark alley to get back to where I had parked. I was jogging cause I was in a hurry, and as I was zipping down the middle of the alley a dark and scrawny figure came out of the shadows and pursued me. At first I thought he was going to just be crazy or panhandle me, but then he got really aggressive and it was clear he was going to mug me. Without even breaking stride I twisted around and punched him with a right-hook to the face.
But the weird thing is, my sleeping body actually threw a punch. If I'd been closer to the side of the bed I probably would have knocked over the lamp on my night-table. If I'd had someone in bed with me I'd have given him a really rude awakening, and maybe a fat lip or a black eye. I'm probably lucky I didn't hit the headboard or I would have hurt my hand.
I'm used to having weird and sometimes adventurous dreams, but not to having them invade the waking world. Too crazy.
