It's funny how even though I'm not working now, today was still a holiday for me. I had a pretty decent weekend, and today was a good day soup to nuts.
Friday I went with a few friends to see the new X-Men movie. I gave it a 6 out of 10. The script was awful, and the rest was inevitable. If all you wanted was to see a bunch of mutants fighting and cool effects, it was a great movie. But the story was weak and confusing, and they tried to fit about three or four movies worth of plot and character development into the one film. There were far too many new characters as well as a slew of old ones, so there was no time to devote to getting to know any of them enough to care about them, even the ones we knew from old movies. There was a very funny part for us San Franciscans toward the end where there's a fight in SF and Storm calls up some fog for cover. The whole audience chuckled because there should have already been fog all over at that time and place in SF!
Saturday I went to my friend Mike's place and watched an old Jack Nicholson movie and drank cocktails. The movie was The Passenger, a 1975 work directed by Antonioni. It was classic Italian post-modern (I think) film, and I still don't know what it was about. Well, I do, but I can tell I'll have to watch it a few more times to really get it. But I gotta say, mid-30s Jack Nicholson was kinda sexy.
Sunday I got flaked on by a friend I was going to do a massage trade with. So instead I spent most of the day doing some programming tasks to get them off my plate so I can concentrate on paying work during the week. Oh yeah, it looks like I'm starting work on a paying contract this week. Should be interesting, since I've never done contract work or consulted before. But I'm looking forward to it, for both the learning opportunity and of course the cash flow.
Today was really nice. Beautiful day, though a bit breezy and nippy. I would have loved to go to a BBQ but I didn't have a line on one. Instead I walked over to Dolores park with my iPod and a book to hang out for a while. Dolores Beach was jam packed with boys, just the way it usually is on a day like today. I took a spot on the hillside with a good few and read a few chapters. Eventually some boys on the beach fired a champagne cork my way and I noticed one of them was my friend Gary. I went down to say hi and ended up hanging with him and his gang for an hour or two. I met a cute boy who lives on my old street near the park - might go do yoga with him sometime...
Oh by the way, I seem to have lost about 8 pounds so far on this diet without much effort at all. That's 2lbs/week, which is a really safe rate for losing weight and not bad progress at all. If I can do this for another 5 or 6 weeks I'll be at my goal weight. I hope I can find a good pool party for the 4th of July cause I will want to find some fab swimsuit to wear :-)
