We hate in others what we fear in ourselves.

I think thats an extreme statement since its pretty obvious we don't want to be what we don't enjoy.

There's a difference between not enjoying something and hating it. I don't want to be a drag queen, but I don't hate them either. On the other hand, I have a pretty hateful reaction to homeless people asking me for money, so I guess I fear something about being helpless and how I might deal with it myself.

Does that mean that because I hate "queens" I am really scared of the "queen" inside myself?

LOL

*jokes jokes* by the way welcome to my journal, added ya back as a mate!

Yes, that's exactly what it means :-)

But don't worry, it's not bad having some queen inside you sometimes.

Thanks for the add. You're my first LJ friend down under. I need to come back sometime - I was in Melbourne about 10 years ago, saw the cute little penguins and everything.

I used to have a quote by Hermann Hesse on my profile that said something similiar:

“If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us”

That's a great quote. I don't know where my post came from, if I heard it or it just arose from my own thoughts. I do remember hearing someone say that if you're angry at someone it's because you've done something to hurt them. Ha, how's that for a brain-thumper!

I like that! Something to ponder...

Ahhh... Psychology of Transference. That was one chapter on Jung I found to be true time and time again.
