Last week I bopped down to LA for some work stuff (a class actually). I got to spend Friday night down there, so I got to go out on the town in LA for the first time in ages. davidology
was uber cool and grabbed dinner and drinks with me. By the way, he's sort of adorable in person.
After eating dinner we went to the Abbey for much needed drinks. OK, $12 for a cocktail? When did LA become NY? And I gotta say, LA is far less cute than I recall from when I lived there. Lots of un-cute guys dressed like they were god's gift or something. Bleh. However, I did manage to be entertained. We ran into a friend of David's and a friend of his who was visiting from NY. David's friend turned out to be a grad student at my alma mater, and I knew his advisor from when we were undergrads together. I think that really freaked him out! And then his NY friend turns out to know lorenzosf
and that whole crowd.
My favorite saying about the SF small world effect: "The Bay Area is just 300 people... and their friends." I guess LA is like that too, just not as cute.
had to work and couldn't meet up on Friday. I can see that next time I'll have to use my secret army of psychic ninja minions to make sure he puts in an appearance.
