Last Friday I braved the roads with only one fully functional eye. Luckily it was a cloudy afternoon so the light wasn't too hard on my dilated eye. And I was driving a route I could drive with my eyes closed - though I didn't, really!
Anyway, at one point a car pulled in front of me that was just belching smoke from its tailpipe. As a good, environmentally-focused Californian, I took down his plate number. This morning I went to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's web site
and entered a Smoking Vehicle Report
for the car.
All that happens is that the owner gets a letter telling them their car was reported and giving them info how to get it fixed before they get a $100 ticket from the police. So I don't have to feel bad that I got them busted, and I can feel good that maybe I helped them to get their car fixed and stop polluting the air I have to breathe.
