Last night was a good bit of silliness. I hung out with untitled42
for the evening. We went for pasta dinner at Capri, that non-fabulous but yummy Italian restaurant in the Castro. After dinner, we repaired to chez josh for a few hours of playing 42's new game buy, the Lemony Snicket board game: The Perilous Parlor
The game is rather odd. Olaf tries to kill the children's guardian. The children try to save the guardian. It all takes place in a house with rooms with names like "the dangerous den" and "the lethal living room". There are 4 characters to play, Olaf and the orphans, but when it's just two players one play plays all of the children and the other plays Olaf. The thing I liked was how much more likely it is for Olaf to win. The game designers didn't care about fairness as much as recreating the mood of inevitable doom punctuated by bizarre twists and clever diversions. But I think it would be more fun with 3 or 4 players.
