I just found out that my older sister's home was flooded by Ivan's terrible rains this weekend. She lives in Pittsburgh, and much of Pennsylvania was devastated by the remnants of the hurricane. Of course she just bought a new house, and got all new appliances and stuff. The house was flooded with about 2 feet of mud, ruining all the appliances and furniture and damaging the house itself. And her insurance won't cover any of it. Damn acts of God.
Thankfully this is an election year and Pennsylvania is a major swing state, so it's likely the feds will make a big deal of helping out with disaster recovery. In the mean time we're all pitching in to help her out. Oy, what a mess!
