gadgets galore

[written Friday afternoon on the plane]

Shoving everything into my backpack this morning I had to confront what a gadget freak I am. Check out what I've got with me on this trip.

Mac PowerBook 15" G4
20GB iPod
Samsung A680 cell phone
Canon S410 digital elph camera
Photon Micro keychain light
spare PowerBook battery
PowerBook power carger
cell phone travel charger
ethernet cable
firewire cable

And I get the feeling I have more gadgets hiding in the pack I can't remember right now. I could have brought my iSight along, but really what would I use it for? I hardly use it at home. The bitch is, that with all that stuff, I forgot to bring my iPod firewire-to-dock-connector cable, so I'll have to pick one up in NY so I can recharge the iPod for the flight home. I also forgot to bring a DVD to watch on the flight. I have the darn extra battery, so I might as well.

[updated Saturday afternoon]

We stopped by the Apple Store in Soho and I got me an extra iPod cable, so I'm set. Yay.

I really need me a big geek/gadget userpic.

That seems like a perfectly reasonable list to me :)

For a quick jaunt to Sydney a few weeks back, between my friend and I, we had :

A 15" G4 PowerBook
Ethernet cables
Firewire cables
Camera media card reader
2 Cell phones
2 Digital cameras
A 15GB & a 40GB i Pod (and assorted power cables and docks)
4 sets of headphones
And of course, 2 power adaptors, so we could actually plug in!

4 sets of headphones? That seems rather excessive! Wait, sometimes I travel with 2 sets, so forget that.

Do I know you? You seem to have like all my friends on your friendslist, but I can't think of who you might be...

I loved Sydney. I can't believe you got such a good deal on tickets. That's amazing!

Strangely enough, I don't think we really know each other. As you said, I know most everybody you seem to know. And I've been reading your posts for some time, as a lurker. The wondrous anonymity of the internet!

As for the flight deal, it really was one of those last minute things. United has weekly "E-fares" where they scan through all their flights that haven't been sold out, then offer the tickets for uber-cheap. The flight times and days are very restrictive and it's always a crap shoot as to which destinations are available. I remember the week after I got from Sydney, there were NO international destinations, and the domestic destinations available were less than appealing. I'm sure a $92 flight from SFO to Chico is a good bargain, but somehow... hmm... no.

I love my iPod mini.

It's sexy.
