adventures in dentistry

I called the dentist's office again this morning, and had a more rational conversation with the office manager, and she checked with the dentist, so I got approval for a cleaning. I went in at noon, for both the exam and cleaning. Of course, things never go quite according to plan.

Before I get to the ugly part, I have to mention the view. OH. MY. GODS. Way up on the 24th floor with a view looking right at the Transamerica pyramid and the bay in the background. Just amazing, especially on a gorgeous day like today. It was almost worth the pain just to sit there and look at that view for an hour.

Now to the pain. Since it had been so long since a visit, my teeth needed more than your average cleaning. Two words: deep scaling. Yuck. I got half done today, and have to go back for Part II next week. I'm so glad I pushed to get a double appointment and could get half done today, so I can get this all done with sooner rather than later.

On the plus side, she used a nifty digital x-ray device that uses only 15% the radiation of the usual kind, and doesn't use film so there are no chemicals etc. And the doctor and the assistants were great. Overall, it was a good experience. I'm glad I was able to get things worked out so I could find out what a good dentist she is.

Now I'm just waiting for the novocain to wear off so I can smile with both sides of my face.

I feel your pain. I did the same thing once when I had about a 3 year lapse in dental insurance coverage. Never again. Even without insurance, paying the $75 cleaning fee every six months is so worth not having to endure the pain of having 3 years of cleaning done in one sitting.

I'm overdue for a cleaning, too. It's been a year and a half. The whole Portland poverty no insurance bankruptcy am I going to lose my car and be out on the thing. Time to go back. Gotta find a good dentist here. I had a very good one in Oakland, liked the office a lot, and best of all, they used gas when I needed fillings. Before going, I had allowed several years to elapse, and my mouth wasn't in the best shape. It wasn't bad, I do brush and floss, but it could have been better. Know what the worst is for me? The gum measuring. When the hygienist jabs you with the little metal gizmo. Despite all the codeine I took before the appointment, it still sent me over the edge.

I wonder what it would feel like to have someone who's just come from dentist give me a bj? LOL

Probably about the same as getting one from Mick Jagger.

That was just wrong on so many levels! LOL
